Your Key to a Peaceful Team—Test Tasks
Hey social impact founder, I hope you’ve had a great February. Are you struggling to save time when hiring or making tough team-related decisions? I’m trying a method from Dan Martell that can streamline the hiring process and give you insights into your top candidates quickly. It will stop fires before they even happen.
The Test Task
Here’s how to save time with a test task:
1. Test Project for Top 3 Candidates: Pick your top three candidates and give them a project that mirrors the actual work you’ll do together. The goal? See who can hit the ground running.
2. Three Key Things:
Real Work: Ensure the task reflects the actual work you'll collaborate on, so you get a true sense of their skills.
Pay Them: Pay for the test work to show you value their time and to get serious candidates.
Minimal Instructions: Give minimal direction and see how they manage ambiguity.
3. Creativity vs. Stalling: Watch for candidates who are resourceful and make decisions, versus those who stall or refuse to make choices. You want someone who will move the ball forward, not someone who needs constant guidance.
