Straight from improv comedy, this tactic can transform disagreements into productive discussions. Instead of saying “yes, but” or “no,” you can respond with “yes, and.” This simple shift shows you’re listening, builds trust, and sparks creativity.

Why It Works:

• Values their perspective and opens up the conversation

• Creates a sense of partnership and uses the “unity” principle of persuasion

• Combines viewpoints for innovative solutions

Next time a disagreement pops up, throw in a “yes, and.” You might be surprised how it changes the conversation.
