The art of standing up for yourself

Hey social impact entrepreneur! I recently had a conversation with someone trying to provoke me, and I found something powerful.

WeStand Wrap-Up

A key part of productivity most people don’t talk about is having effective conversations. Allowing others to belittle you wastes your most valuable resources: time and energy.

Let’s say someone makes a disrespectful comment. It’s not productive to stoop to their level or ignore it. So what do you do?

Show them you’re calm and confident. You will not give them the reaction they want.

Here’s how:

  1. Ask them to repeat it: “Can you repeat that?” (It helps them reflect and realize what they said)

  2. Inquire about their intention: “Did you intend to embarrass me?” or “Did you intend to put me down?”

  3. Go silent and look at them
